For field engineers

Join the DataOptix engineer network

DataOptix works through a network of vetted independent data centre engineers rather than employing staff in every city. If you already work in data halls and hold access to facilities in your market, we would like to hear from you. Work is dispatched to you by a coordinator who knows the customer and the site.

Where we need people

Cities in demand

These are our growth markets. We take applications from every city we cover, but these are where new engineers get work soonest.

  • Paris
  • Dublin
  • Ashburn and Northern Virginia
  • Dallas
  • Chicago
  • Zurich
  • Madrid

Working somewhere else? Apply anyway. Our customers move into new markets regularly, and we would rather have vetted engineers already in the network when they do.

What you get

Why engineers work with us

  • Work dispatched to you, with no bidding and no lead generation
  • A coordinator who has already scoped the job before you accept it
  • Clear build sheets and documentation standards, not vague instructions
  • You choose which jobs you take and which you pass on
  • Paid per engagement on agreed terms, without chasing end customers
  • Repeat work in facilities where you already hold access
  • Cover under our insurance while working on our customers' sites
  • Direct line to the coordinator when a job is not what was described

How it works

From application to first job

  1. Step 1: Apply

Tell us your city, your skills and which facilities you have worked in. It takes a few minutes.

  2. Step 2: Vetting

We verify your identity, take professional references and confirm the qualifications relevant to the work you want to take on.

  3. Step 3: Dispatch

Once you are in the network, a coordinator contacts you when work comes up in your city. You accept or decline each job.

Requirements

What we need from you

  • Hands-on data centre experience, not general IT support
  • The right to work in the country where you operate
  • Willingness to complete identity and reference checks
  • Qualifications appropriate to the work you take on
  • Your own basic tooling for the work you accept
  • Ability to photograph and document work to our standard
  • Reliable communication with the coordinator during a job
  • Professional conduct on customer and operator premises

Engineer questions

Is this employment or contract work?

Contract work. You stay independent, you choose which jobs you take, and you invoice us for the work you complete. We are not an agency placing you into a permanent role.

How much work can I expect?

It depends entirely on your city and your skills. Engineers in our growth markets who hold access to major facilities tend to see work soonest. We will be straight with you about the likely volume in your market rather than overpromising to get you signed up.

How long does vetting take?

Usually a couple of weeks, mostly waiting on references. We will tell you where your application stands rather than leaving you guessing.

Do I need my own insurance?

Our cover applies while you are working on our customers' sites under our dispatch. Depending on your country and how you are set up, you may also want your own professional cover, and we will discuss that during onboarding.

Do I need to already hold facility access?

It helps a great deal and often decides how quickly you get work, but it is not essential. Access is normally arranged per customer under their authorisation with the operator.
